PANCROMA System Requirements
Landsat data files are very large. Each of the three band files needed for pan sharpening is about 60MB in size. The panchromatic file is even larger: about 250MB. Several temporary files of similar size are required to perform the necessary transformations. When you are done pan sharpening you may have an RGB file as large as 850MB to save and subsequently reload.
As a result, pan-sharpening uses a lot of computer resources and a more powerful computer will of course perform the computations faster than an older and slower machine. The amount of installed RAM in your computer has the largest affect on processing times, along with the amount of RAM in your graphics card. Computer requirements are as follows.
Minimum system requirements¹:
Recommended system configuration²:
¹Note: Systems with 256MB RAM will be able to pan sharpen full-size Landsat data sets and can utilize the full range of PANCROMA subsetting and pan-sharpening capabilities but processing speeds will be slow. See the article on processing huge datasets at www.TERRAINMAP.com
²Note: This configuration will allow processing at the fastest speeds.
